Emeralds are part of the Beryl family, found in various shades of vibrant green, the most desirable being bluish green to pure green. Emeralds are commonly found with natural inclusions,  making it extremely rare to find an emerald completely free of inclusions. Certain types of inclusions in fact make the gemstone more valuable and desirable. These stones are very popular set in both white metal and yellow metal, and are set into all types of jewellery including pendants, earrings, bracelets and ring.

Emeralds are quite a brittle stone so caution should be taken when wearing a piece of emerald jewellery on a day to day basis, however they are resonably hard stones measuring 7.5 - 8 on the Mohs Scale of hardness.

 

Emeralds are also the birth stone of the month of May and 55th wedding aniversary gift.
